Children's Preparedness Day!

Target, Miami-Dade Public Schools and Miami-Dade Emergency Management Ready Kids for Emergencies

 


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

In support of National Preparedness Month, children from Charles Drew Middle School and Centennial Middle School will partner with Target Team Members and Miami-Dade Emergency Managers at Miami-Dade County’s Emergency Operations Center, 9300 NW 41st Street in Miami, to develop individualized home disaster plans.  The event begins at 10:45 am on Thursday, September 20th – a period during the height of hurricane season in South Florida.

Students will identify area hazards, conduct a personal risk analysis, draw up a schematic of their home identifying its safe room, and practice fire evacuation techniques with the help of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Office of Public Education’s staff who will be operating the Smoke House; a mobile trailer equipped with a smoke machine to simulate a real fire!
